• Kaltura Meeting – Site Admins are now able to select how Kaltura Meeting Rooms will be opened - in a new tab or in the same tab. If the new tab option was selected, Admins will be able to select the Site domain (kaltura.com option) or newrow.com domain. Read more in the Enable Live Rooms article.
• KMS/KAF admin:  Login As – The Login As action in the Manage Users page of the admin page has been added to allow site admins to login as any specific user.
  This is a very important tool that allows for better and faster support and investigations, and is also very useful for the site admins when testing new features and preparation for new releases.
  Note that in KAF, this feature is not the same as using the LMS's impersonation tool inside a course, but instead it  allows the admins to reach the My-media section for the users. See User Management for additional information. (KMS-21677)
• KMS/KAF admin:  Block User – The Block user action in the Manage Users page of the admin page has been added that enables site admins to block any user, without  deleting them from the site.  See User Management for additional information.(KMS-21783)
  
• KMS Navigation
  • Label – A new type of item is available, allowing the KMS admin to set a non-clickable navigation bar item, that can hold clickable sub-items. (KMS-22070) See the Navigation module for more information.

  • Scheduling – Google Calendar support has been added. Now, when a user selects the "Add to Calendar" menu item from the Actions pull down menu, they can add the Webcast Event to their Google Calendar in one easy step, instead of having to download an .ics file and manually importing it into the Google Calendar. • Watch Later Playlist – The Watch Later Playlist feature is available for each logged in user in their My-Playlist page.  The Watch Later Playlist is used to collect content to watch later and is shared with the KMS Go application. • Create Playlist Button – This important button can be found on the top of the My Playlists page, and allows users to create a new playlist directly from the My Playlists page. (KMS-20183)
• Add-to-Playlist Component – The Add-to-Playlist component is now available in each playlist. When editing your playlists (Personal or Channel/Media Gallery playlist) you can add content without the need to browse for content on the site. (KMS-20287)

For Channel or Media Gallery playlists: This capability will be added in an upcoming release, Users will be able to add content from the category content itself, or from My-Media. • Channel Playlists Improvements:

SAML Authentication – A dedicated logout URL to which users are redirected when they logout of KMS may now be added in the SAML module. (1)

Enhanced SSO Security – Our current SSO Gateway implementation was enhanced from SHA-1 (Secure Hash Algorithm) to a stronger SHA-256. (2)

Channel Subscription – Users may now copy and share a link to use for channel subscription. A KMS user copies the subscription link (as shown below), sends the link to another KMS user, that user then clicks on the link and is automatically subscribed to the channel. (3)

UI Changes

• Ownership and collaboration indicators are now available within My Media which give a user insight into why this media displays in their list. The new indicator also shows if the collaboration is given personally to the user or via a group collaboration (see image below). (5)

What's New

• Time & Date – We consolidated all the fields in the Admin that pertain to the way time and date show in KMS/KAF, and merged them all into one field.  (1)
  This unification allows you to control the way time and date shows in KMS/KAF using the “dateFormat” field under the application module.
  We are also introducing a new field called "uploadDateStyle"  under the application module, to allow the Admins to choose whether to show the explicit date, e.g. "September 1st, 2019" instead of "2 days ago". (2)

• UI Changes – Under each entry, an icon showing the number of plays is presented. The current "eye" icon was changed to the triangle play button to make sure the visual representation is correct, as “eye” usually represents “player impressions” and not “plays”. (3)

• Styling Module – We added a new addition to the styling capabilities – “Dropdown Menu Background Color (:active)”.
  This new field modifies the background color when a dropdown menu element is active. (4)
• Quick Ingest – While still in open Beta, we have added the new “Add from Library” option to the list, now presenting Add New, YouTube, Webcam, and From Library. (5)
  This option takes you to the BSE page, showing your My Media and other options.

• Support – We are adding an easier way to collect support logs without using any external tools or the browsers' developer tools.  See more in the Collecting Support Logs within the App guide. (6)

New Features and User Stories

Cross Application Publishing – Currently, you can see all of the Kaltura applications into which media is published in the My Media Page by clicking on the green Published button.

Now, you are also able see this information on each individual media’s publish section just above the Save and Cancel buttons. (PSVAMB-8500)

We have also added a new feature in the media publish section called “Unpublish from all applications”. This feature comes in the form of a button below the Published state radio button. Clicking this new button removes the media from ALL applications, including the current one, and makes the media entry completely private.

What's New KMS & KAF

• URL for Filtered Results / Channel Topics (1)

This is a 2 in one feature. Specific URLs for all pages that have data filtered have been added (except for the category pages).

Each time you search or use filters for My Media, Global Search, or All-Channels, the URL changes accordingly to reflect your search/filtering results. You can save the URL in your favorites or send it to someone else.

An important use case for the filters’ URL feature is the Channel Topics. The Channel topics filter may be used to add and filter topics for channels in the “All Channels” and “My Channels” Pages.

The URL created by filtering channels by topics provides a new way to create dedicated channel pages per topic.

• Themes - Additional capabilities for Theming are available in KMS/KAF. (2)
  • Admins may setup sets of players to use in a category.
  • Each category owner (channel, gallery, media gallery) can decide what set of players to use for their category.  This option is configured in the ChannelTheme (for both channels and media galleries) and Categorytheme modules (for galleries).
    

Note: If you have the Theme Preference set up you may choose which option overrides the other. For example you can select the single entry theme to override the category theme or vice versa.

• Subscribers - A  column has been added under the Members page for Categories. The “Subscribed” column, indicates whether a user has subscribed to the category or not. (3)
   You can see subscribers that are members as well as subscribers that are not members.
• Carousel Type – The Home page has a new carousel type available. Turn it on from the Home module. (4)
  
  
  
• Quick Ingest – This Quick Ingest feature, is a new addition to the BSE family. It can compliment the BSE feature, or replace it. It is basically a BSE without the Browse and the Search. As this is currently released in Open Beta mode, we will release more information after we go live. (5)
  
• All new KMS/KAF instances will be created with players marked with version “Latest”. (6)
• Unnecessary Flash Vars have been removed from the embed code to speed up the embed process. (Webcasting) (7)

The following new features were added to the amazing Manage Groups tool:

• Import Users – Allows the admins to add new users to a group in a bulk. You can drop a list of user IDs separated by comma or semicolon. Note: The users will be imported with only their user-ID. Other details can be passed on login via SSO authentication. (2) 
  

  

• Copy Group – The ability to copy a group saves time when creating groups with almost the same user list. Create a basic group of users, clone it, and then add the missing users to each cloned group. (3) 

• Added groups’ support for the EntryDesign, Kalturacapture, Recorder, and Quiz modules (4)

Topics Module Improvements

In-Video Quiz – Multiple Attempts

Multiple attempts is now available for the KAF LMS extensions and plugins quizzes (1) . For more information see the section about Multiple Attempts in the Kaltura Video Editing Tools - Quiz Tab article.

Please make sure to update all your players  in the Kaltura Management Console Universal Studio.  More information may be found in the IVQ documentation.

CaptureSpace End-of-Life

CaptureSpace will reach end-of-life on June 1st, 2019. At that point, Kaltura Capture will replace CaptureSpace and CaptureSpace will no longer be supported by Kaltura.

To enable Kaltura Capture, follow the information in the Kaltura Capture documentation.  Additional information about the transition may be found in the FAQ page.

Embed

MediaSpace sharing capabilities have been enhanced, allowing end users to share a video while pointing it to a specific time start and/or end time:

You can send a link to a media page with a specific portion of the media so only a concentrated portion of the media is shared. Use on of the following methods:

• Use the Start at time or End at time field to enter the viewing start and end times.
• Use the icon next to the field to sync the time that is currently on the media player. 
• Manually input the start and end times into the link by adding st=$ed=

  .

Groups Management: 

Additional features have been added to the groups’ capabilities; a checkbox for Specific Users/Groups has been added to support groups in the admin console for fields that contain check box types for permissions. (2)  

Check the Specific Users/Groups box and enter the Users/Groups information.

For those using the Samlgroupsync – KMS now is able to handle special characters in the group name. (3)

In the next sprint we intend to add the ability to import new users directly to groups. (4).

Home Page – Trending Videos

A new playlist type "Trending" is now available in the Home page setting. Set the option in the Home module carousel type in the KMS admin.

The Trending playlist presents the set of the most played media in the past 30 days, 7 days, or last 48 hours on the MediaSpace home page. (5)

Groups Management: The ability to manage groups is now available directly from the KMS/KAF admin. This is another important step allowing groups to become super useful, and to allow faster and better control over a user’s permission in a bulk.

New Channel type – “Public, Open”: We have added a new type of public channel. A public channel is a channel that is available to guests just like the galleries (assuming your KMS is open for anonymous users). The ability to add content to the existing public channel was restricted to channel members. The new Public Open channel is opened to any logged in user with the private Only role and above, and can add content to it without being a member of the channel. (1)

Express Capture – HTML Webcam Recorder: Several UI enhancements were made; such as making the text style, line separators, alignment of icons, and changing the text from “Save a copy” to “Download a copy”.

We also added a message that indicates that the upload is complete, and when so made sure that the webcam is released after the recording is completed.

Email Notifications: Introducing a new look to the old page, with preparations for the new features that will be added later – per instance notifications. These are currently in a closed-beta, and will be introduced in later sprints as a self-serve upgrade to all instances.  (2)

xAPI Additions: Adding more features/actions to the xAPI statements we are sending (3): 

• Added actions: Resume play, pause, seek

• Kaltura Express Capture - HTML Webcam Recorder  – A new Big Red Button has been added to the Kaltura Capture suite. This new feature is now available for all KMS and KAF instances. Kaltura Express Capture enables recording content directly from the browser, with no need to install any additional software.

  Admins: Give it a try by going to the instance admin and enable the new “Recorder” module. (1)
  Note the Player version must be v3. A new v3 player will automatically be created in the module when you turn enable it.

  The new webcam recorder will replace the Flash recorder, which is anticipated to be removed from KMS and KAF later this year. (An announcement will be sent.)

• BSE (Browse Search & Embed) “Advanced Settings”
  
  For Admins: The Embed Advanced Settings feature may be enabled on all KAF instances by choosing a new BSE version – V3. When enabled, the Kaltura Embed Media page is displayed with an entire new set of embed features (more to come). See the Browse Search and Embed Administrator's Guide for more information.
  To try it out, login to the KAF admin page, select the browseandembed module and turn on the v3 version in the enableNewBSEUI field. Please note, the v3 version will replace previous versions, that are intended to be removed later this year (A separate announcement will be sent with more information). (2)

• Accessibility – Additional changes to support accessibility were introduced: 
  • Contrast button for our LMSs – This is a great step with accessibility, that’s allowing our LMS integrations to provide contrast mode. Turning the feature on is a simple click of a button from the accessibility module in your KAF admin. (1)
  • Login Page Text Boxes – To make it more accessible, we took the text out of the box. This change is only relevant for KMS instances not using SSO (which will be using an external login page). (2)
  • Small fixes – see in the Resolved Issues table. 
  • Multi languages – Each language can be read by a SR.
    
• Groups - We added a new Group Sync module, similar to the SAML one, that will allow all you SSO gateway users to be assigned automatically to groups. See the new module information here. (3)

• Workflows – We are improving the publishing workflow right after upload. A new tool tip allows users to know what they need to do before they can publish the video. (4)
  
  

• UI v2 – 

  • Channel Carousel – Introducing a new feature available in the UI v2 only. The Channel Theme currently holds the first feature that allows channel owners to customize their channels. Adding a Channel Carousel displays a playlist of videos on the top of the channel, instead of a static image. (5), This option is configured in the Channeltheme module.
  • Language Flags vs. Text - Since a language can be used in many countries, we added the ability to use text instead of flags when using multiple languages in KMS. Set the new ‘showLanguageFlag’ field to “No” to activate this behavior. (6)

• Flash Dependency – Flash components in KMS/KAF have been removed. Components on KMS/KAF and the KMS/KAF admin that contained Flash elements were replaced with a non-Flash component.(1)
  The Webcam recorder, will be replaced with HTML recorder in the next sprints. Of course, non-flash Kaltura Capture is available to all our clients.
  
  
• Super-Fast Upload – We have been working on decreasing the upload time. It is now 7 times shorter (as our tests show).
  Our upload process sends chunks of a file in parallel, thus utilizing the bandwidth to the max and increases the upload speed. (Relevant for KMS and KAF).(2)
  
  
• Add User –The Add User interface has been enhanced to allow multiple selection of users and groups with one click. This enhancement is part of our general Groups improvements. A visual component has been added to the groups and users that will let you differentiate between the 2 types.(3)

What's New for KAF & KMS 

BSE Workflows Enhancements– We listen! After feedback from you, we have made many improvements to the BSE (Browse, Search & Embed). The changes are diverse, from simply adding a Refresh button, to other complex changes like faster loading time. The following lists the current changes:

• New Upload– We added the ability to drag and drop files when uploading via the BSE. Currently, the drag and drop works for only 1 video at a time, but bulk upload is on its way. Good news – this feature is also available in KMS.  (1)
• New Refresh Button– We added a “Refresh” button on the BSE main page. This allows better support for Kaltura Capture and CaptureSpace workflows.(2)
• Faster BSE– Changes to the backend to use less API calls provide better BSE performance.(3)
• Minor Style Changes– We changed some buttons colors and made some alignment changes to elements(4)

New Search Items- Additional changes and improvements have been made to the new search feature.

• Added the Shared Repository filters to the custom data filters. The little cog will no longer be visible, and the Shared Repository filters will be included with the rest of the filters.(5)
• All irrelevant filters for chosen options are now hidden (e.g. the duration is hidden if images are selected).(6)
• Support for default sorting value in galleries.(7)

KAF Security Enhancements– Additional layers of security have been added to all KAF applications.
