This article describes the common terms used for creating caption and translation requests from Kaltura.

Service

  • Machine – ASR generated captions, 70-80 percent accuracy
  • Professional – Human generated captions/audio description Chaptering, 99 percent accuracy

Speaker ID

Check to add the speaker's name(s) at the beginning of the captions. Use this to identify individuals in your captions and translation files.

Feature

  • Captions - SRT caption file in the "Source"/"Original" language.
  • Caption with Speaker ID
  • Translation - SRT caption file in the "Target"/"Destination" language.
  • Translation with Speaker ID
  • Alignment - Align the text with the video, and create a caption file.
  • Audio Description - Gives a spoken description of the detail and imagery in a video to make content accessible to individuals with a vision impairment.
  • Chaptering - Create chapters for a video. The chapters are added as content metadata, just like creating chapters manually.

Turnaround time (TAT)

The Turnaround Time for captions requests are configured by your system administrator. Only configured options are displayed on your MediaSpace instance.

Professional

  • 3 hours (for up to 10 minute videos) See Note.
  • 6 hours
  • 24 hours
  • 48 hours
  • 5 days (for Audio Description only)
  • Best Effort (usually 7 days)

Machine captions TAT is usually 30 minutes and depends on the video duration.

If a three-hour turn around time is selected for captions and if the video is more than 10 minutes an alert is displayed that it will take more than three hours to process.

Auto chaptering and audio description
