Introduction to Kaltura's player settings

The Player Studio in the Rich Media CMS lets administrators configure the behavior, appearance, and integrations of individual players.

Player settings are organized into Settings, Visual, and Integrations tabs. The available settings depend on the player type: VOD, audio, or Reels.

Access the settings

  1. Log into the Rich Media CMS and click the Studio tab.

  2. Click the player you want to configure.

Settings page at a glance

The player settings are organized into three tabs:

  • Settings - Player behavior, accessibility, navigation, interactivity, and controls
  • Visual - Appearance, colors, branding, and styling
  • Integrations - Third-party services and integrations

Settings tab

The Settings tab includes the following sections:

  • Playback options - Settings that control how media starts and plays, such as autoplay, start playback muted, and preload. This section also includes player-specific playback features for Audio and Reels.
  • Accessibility & language - Settings for accessible playback, including captions and transcripts.
  • Navigation & discovery - Features that help viewers navigate and discover content, such as related videos and chapters.
  • Engagement & interactivity - Interactive features such as quizzes, hotspots, and call-to-action elements.
  • Controls & permissions - Viewer controls and restrictions, including moderation and download permissions.

The available settings vary depending on the player type.

Visual tab

The Visual tab controls the look and feel of the player, including theme where applicable, player and live colors, background, external CSS, logo, watermark, error slate, and bumpers.

Integrations tab

The Integrations tab connects the player to supported services and integrations, including YouTube playback, AirPlay and Chromecast, SEO, analytics platforms such as Youbora, Google Tag Manager, and Google Analytics, and monetization through IMA and IMA DAI.

Advanced settings

On the Settings tab, scroll to the bottom and click Advanced settings to open the JSON editor. Use the JSON editor for configuration that isn't available in the player settings.

Player types

The settings available depend on the player you're configuring. The following tags are used in the player settings articles to show which player types support a feature:

Tag Player

Audio Audio player
Reels Reels player

Preview your player

Use the player preview to test changes as you configure the player.

To change the preview media:

  1. Click the arrow next to the preview media name.
  2. Select a demo or media from your account.

Select media that includes the feature you want to test, such as captions, dual screen, quizzes, or hotspots.
