About
The Kaltura Room is a real-time meeting space designed for collaboration, training, and live sessions. It enables teams to meet, present, and interact using a range of engagement and collaboration tools.
Kaltura Rooms support a variety of use cases, including team workshops, training sessions, internal meetings, and collaborative learning experiences.
With Kaltura Rooms, you can:
- Create engaging sessions using tools such as polls, quizzes, chat, and reactions.
- Encourage collaboration with breakout rooms, whiteboards, and stage participation.
- Deliver branded experiences with customizable themes and branding.
- Run media-rich sessions smoothly using storyboard planning and built-in video playback.
Kaltura Rooms are accessible on mobile devices through the browser - no app required. Most features are available, including chat, raising hands, joining the stage, and participating in breakout rooms.
Some moderation and advanced presenter tools (like storyboard editing, layout changes, and screen sharing) are view-only on mobile.
Integrations
Kaltura Rooms integrate with:
- Microsoft Teams
- Learning Management Systems (LMS)
- Single Sign-On (SSO) and more.
The Kaltura Room is designed for internal communication and is not intended for external events. For external events, we recommend using Kaltura Events.
Sessions created before Oct 1st, 2023 use the legacy room. All sessions created after this date automatically use the new Kaltura Room.
Room modes
Kaltura Rooms support two session modes, optimized for different audience sizes:
- Interactive mode – Supports up to 100 participants, with a maximum of 25 on stage and the remaining 75 as viewers.
- Webinar mode – Accommodates up to 300 participants, with a maximum of 10 on stage and the remaining 290 as viewers.

Branding
Rooms support branding and Theming.
When you set up your site using Kaltura's Theming design system or apply branding to your event, rooms inherit the active colors, fonts, and overall style automatically. You don't need to perform any additional setup to align your room with your brand.
Storyboard
The storyboard helps moderators plan and structure sessions.
Available tools include:
- Speaker notes
- Customized reception and break screens
- Backstage coordination during receptions and breaks
- Scene managerment
These tools allow moderators to prepare content and manage transitions during a session.
Chat and Collaboration (C&C)
The Chat and Collaborate (C&C) panel provides real-time communication and engagement tools.
- On desktop, it appears in the right sidebar.
- On mobile, it appears at the bottom of the screen.
C&C integrates chat, polls, and collaboration tools to help moderators create interactive sessions.
Features include:
- Group chat: Real-time communication during live sessions.
- Quizzes and polls: Drive engagement with interactive elements.
- Session updates: Share live announcements in the Interaction tab, visible only within the active session.
- Participant management: View and manage attendees with ease.
- Customizable themes: Align the design with your brand’s colors and fonts.
- Reports and analytics: Access session insights, including chat transcripts, user activity, and participation rates.
- Backchannel: A private space for moderators to coordinate during sessions.
Moderators can enable or disable C&C for specific sessions from the session’s edit page, allowing the interaction experience to be customized.
