About
This guide explains the administrative configuration available for the Kaltura Connector for AEM (Adobe Experience Manager) after it has been deployed.
The Kaltura Connector for AEM requires a KAF (Kaltura Application Framework) instance that is provisioned by Kaltura Professional Services. This setup must be completed before any administrative configuration can be performed.
Using the Configuration Management console
In addition to the basic connection configured in AEM, advanced behavior for the connector is managed through the Configuration Management console.

The console controls how AEM authors interact with Kaltura media inside AEM, including:
- Which players are available for embedding
- How media is browsed and selected
- Whether authors can upload or record new media
- Embed behavior and related policies
To learn more about the platform behind these capabilities, see About the Kaltura Application Framework (KAF).
Modules used by the AEM connector
The following modules support the authoring workflows exposed in AEM through the Kaltura Video component:
Core and system modules
- Hosted module – Authentication and session handling
- Hostnames module – Domain and hostname configuration
- Hostedrelated module – Related services (entry pages are not used in the initial AEM connector version)
Browse and embed
- Browseandembed module – Media browsing, search, and selection experience used when embedding media in AEM
Media creation
- Uploadmedia module – Uploading new media
- Recorder module – Recording media directly from the browser
Do not modify KAF modules unless instructed by Kaltura or your implementation partner, as changes may affect other applications sharing the same instance.
Configuring player availability
To provide AEM authors with a choice of players, administrators must first create their players in the Kaltura Player Studio and then add them to the Browseandembed module in their Configuration Management console.
By registering the 'Player ID' and a 'Player Display Name' in the embedSettings section of the Browseandembed module, administrators define exactly which players are available to the AEM author.
For step-by-step instructions, see the Browseandembed module article.

Once these players are added to the module, they automatically appear in the Select a player dropdown menu within the 'Customize Embed' window. This allows authors to choose the configuration that best fits their page.

Playlists are not supported.
Manage user roles for AEM
While the KAF modules control the interface, the Kaltura Management Console (KMC) controls individual user permissions. To ensure content creators and AEM authors can successfully upload and organize media for AEM, they must be assigned a role with the correct permissions.
At a minimum, the role assigned to your AEM team should include:
- Content Ingestion: Permission to Upload from Desktop and Import Files & Bulk Upload.
- Content Management: Permission to Modify Metadata and Modify Entry's Category (required to assign media to the Shared Repository).
