The Recorder module turns on Express Capture for your site and controls how it works.

Express Capture lets users record video or audio directly from their browser, with their webcam and microphone, and without installing any software.

Your site can use one of two versions of the recorder. Version 1.0 is the original recorder, and Version 2.0 adds a teleprompter, background effects, and video and audio settings. You choose the version in the RecorderVersion field.

Before you start

Users need a browser that supports WebRTC. For a list of supported browsers, see the WebRTC website.

Configure

1. Go to your Configuration Management console, locate the Recorder module in the left panel, then select it. You can also navigate directly using a link: https://{your_site_url}/admin/config/tab/recorder

The Recorder page displays.



1. Configure the following:
   • enabled - Set to Yes to enable the module.
   • RecorderVersion - Select the recorder version to use:
     • Version 1.0 - The original recorder.
     • Version 2.0 - The recorder with a teleprompter, background effects, and video and audio settings. To use Version 2.0, Theming must be enabled on your site.

     If the Recorder module was already enabled on your site before Version 2.0 was released, this field is set to Version 1.0. New sites, and sites that hadn't enabled the module, use Version 2.0 by default.

   • allowedRole - Select the users who can use Express Capture:
     • Specific users
     • privateOnly role
     • admin role
     • unmoderatedAdmin role
   • maxRecordingTime - Enter the maximum recording time, in seconds. Leave the field empty for no limit.
   • browserNotSupportedText - Enter the message that appears when a user opens Express Capture in a browser that isn't supported. You can use HTML, such as an <a> tag to add a link.
   • ConversionProfileId - Enter the ID of a custom conversion profile for recordings. Leave the field empty to use the default conversion profile.
   • playerId - Enter the ID of the player that users preview their recording in before they upload it. The player must be a v7 player.
   • addNewLabel - Enter the label for Express Capture in the Add New menu. If you leave the field empty, the label is Express Capture. This label applies only if Theming isn't enabled on your site.
   • recorderOpenInNewTab - Select Yes to open Express Capture in a new browser tab, or No to open it in the same tab.

     When users record from the Embed Kaltura Media window in your LMS, Express Capture always opens in the same tab, whatever this setting is.

   • enableScreenCapture - Set to Yes to turn on the screen recording option.
   • disableDownload - Set to Yes to stop users from downloading a copy of their recording when they stop recording. This field applies only to Version 1.0.
2. Click Save.
