New language support for manual captions

We’ve expanded the number of languages you can use to manually add captions to your videos. This enhancement ensures more viewers can engage with your content in their preferred language, improving accessibility, comprehension, and global reach. Captions appear directly in the video player during playback, delivering a seamless viewing experience for diverse audiences.

New supported languages

Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese, Australian English, Azerbaijani, Bengali, Burmese, Bosnian, Georgian, Gujarati, Javanese, Kannada, Kazakh, Khmer, Lao, Macedonian, Nepali, Persian, Punjabi, Serbian, Sinhalese, Slovakian, Sudanese, Swahili, Tagalog (Filipino), Uzbek, Xhosa.

10-Second viewing analytics update

The way we measure content view times has changed in our analytics dashboards to reflect 10-second interval-based metrics, which is a more accurate method for how viewers engage with content. Minutes viewed and Average minutes viewed metrics are now calculated according to the new method, while avg. drop-off rate has been replaced by completion rate, a similar metric that is based on the improved 10-second internal method.

The new viewership metrics have been already added to API reports and exports, and they will continue to include both the 10-second interval based metrics and the quartile-based metrics (the previous method of metrics).

Manual upload for Extended audio description files - Admins and content managers can now upload EAD VTT files directly and edit them within the closed captions editor. This makes it easier to add professional captions from third-party services or custom-created files to improve accessibility and viewer experience.

Enhanced user matching in Zoom connector - Admins can now use the "Find user by" (for example, by email) setting to determine how the system identifies, matches and links to Kaltura users when Zoom recordings are uploaded. This ensures accurate automated user matching, supports diverse identity configurations, reduces manual work, and streamlines the integration workflow.

What's new?

Sample content in KMC Studio now available across SaaS Regions - Sample content (the video built into the player template that allows showcasing the different features of the player) with advanced Player features (captions, quiz, hotspots, 360, playlist) is now available across additional SaaS regions. Previously, this content was only accessible in select regions.

With this regional expansion, admins across all SaaS regions can now access the same rich sample content in KMC Studio - ensuring consistent feature assessment and Player configuration capabilities regardless of location.

This helps:

• Configure Players with relevant plugins and customizations
• Preview Player configurations with meaningful content examples
• Publish Players which with confidence in the User Experience

Automate Workflows with Admin tags

Admins can now create automation rules based on admin tags — allowing them to tailor workflows to match specific operational needs.

By defining admin tag fields that reflect content sources (e.g., Zoom, WebEx, Teams, Idomoo), admins can apply actions to highly specific content groups - making automation more precise and efficient.

For example, a rule can be set to add a category to entries that have the admin tag “zoom" set - helping publishing content to the intended audiences.

How it works:

• Create or edit a rule - including any fields relevant to your workflows.

• In the Rule, add a criteria and select “Entry admin tags".

• Enter the exact value that should activate or exclude the rule (e.g., “zoom").

This gives admins more control over how and when content is handled - based on the admin tag they define.

Automate Workflows with Live entries and with hidden entries

Until now, only VOD rule types could be created in Automation Manager.

With this update, admins can now create Live rule types with new criteria and actions.

This helps:

• To choose how to deal with Live Recording entries linked to the live entry and hidden from search/media library

Automate Workflows with hidden entries

Previously, VOD rule types could only match parent entries. If a parent entry was deleted, any linked child entries would remain orphaned, often referred to as “zombie” entries.

With this update, admins can now create VOD rule types with new actions.

This helps:

• To choose how to deal with hidden entries that are linked as child entries to one main parent entry (i.e. zoom recordings)

Automate workflows with Custom Metadata - Admins can now create automation rules based on their own custom metadata — allowing them to tailor workflows to match specific operational needs. 

By defining metadata fields that reflect internal policies or content management rules (e.g., archival status, deletion exemptions), admins can apply actions to highly specific content groups - making automation more precise and efficient. 

For example, a rule can be set to delete entries that haven’t been played for 4 years and don’t have the custom metadata field “donotdelete” set - helping clear out unused content while protecting important exceptions. 

How it works: 

• Set up a custom metadata schema - including any fields relevant to your workflows.
• In the Automation Manager, select the schema and field to use as a trigger.
• Enter the exact value that should activate or exclude the rule (e.g., "donotdelete").  

This gives admins more control over how and when content is handled - based on the metadata they define.

Multi-Category publishing for Zoom recordings - Until now, Zoom recordings uploaded via integration could be published to just one category in the Management Console. 

With this update, admins can now publish recordings to multiple categories at once. 

This helps:

• Keep content better organized
• Make recordings easier to find across different channels
• Match each recording to multiple relevant categories (e.g., team, topic, or course)

KMC Analytics update - Admins can now select more intuitive column titles when exporting CSV files from analytics dashboards. This enhancement simplifies navigation and improves content data interpretation. A link to the full metric guide is included in the exported file, offering detailed descriptions of all data points.
