Create and manage clips for an entry

About

The Clips tab on the entry details page lets you create and manage clips from an existing media entry. A clip is a shorter segment of the original video or audio file. You can trim specific parts of your media to repurpose content without affecting the original entry.

Once you create a clip, it automatically appears as a new listed entry on the Entries page. All clips inherit the metadata and access control settings of the original entry. After creation, these settings can be edited independently.

Access the clips tab

  1. Log into your Kaltura Management Console.
  2. The Entries page displays by default.

  3. Click on the desired entry's title or thumbnail.
  4. The entry details page displays.
  5. In the left panel, select Clips.
  6. The Clips tab displays.

Create a clip

You can only trim and clip a live entry if it has a recorded entry.

  1. Click Click & Trim to open the editing tools.
  2. The video editor opens.

  3. Use the trimming tools to define the desired segment.
  4. Click Save.
  5. The new clip is created as a separate entry and listed both in the Clips tab and on the Entries page.

Manage existing clips

If clips were created from an original video or audio entry, they appear in two places:

  • In the Clips tab of the original entry, where you can view all clips associated with it.
  • As separate entries on the Entries page, where you can manage them just like any other entry.

You can click on the clip's ID to navigate to its entry details page.

The entry details page of a clip displays the ID of the original entry. You can click it to navigate back to the original entry.

From the clip’s entry details page, you can also use the three-dot menu to perform actions such as Download, Share & Embed, Launch Editor, or Delete.

Additionally, you can manage clips from the Entries page using the same menu. For more details, see View and manage entries.
