Add questions to your video quiz


About

Add questions to your video quiz to make it more interactive and assess participant understanding.

You can add:

  • Multiple choice questions
  • True/False questions
  • Reflection points
  • Open-ended questions

Access the quiz settings

If you're creating a video quiz for the first time, see Start creating a video quiz to access the quiz editor and its settings.

Add questions

  1. In the quiz editor, move the marker to the point in the video where you want the question to appear. (You can drag the marker or play the video to the desired location.)
  2. The +Add a Question button displays in the player.

  3. Click +Add a Question.
  4. A panel with question types displays.

  5. Select a question type:
  • Multiple Choice - One correct answer and up to four options.
  • Need more than four options? Contact your Kaltura representative for assistance.

  • True/False - True or False answer options.
  • The correct answer is indicated by a green checkmark. By default, True is selected as the correct answer. To make False the correct answer, click the False option.

  • Reflection Point - Displays a reflective prompt and pauses video playback.
  • Open-Ended Question - Participants enter a text response.
  • Open-ended questions support up to 400 characters for the question and 250 characters for the answer.
    • Open-ended questions must be answered before submitting the quiz. They're not auto-graded - the quiz owner reviews and scores them manually and can add a comment. To learn more, see Quiz Reporting and Analytics.
    • This feature requires the Quiz module to be enabled, with the 'QuestionsV3' field set to 'Yes'.
  1. Enter the question text.
  2. Enter the correct answer. 
  3. Enter additional answer options.
  4. At least two answer options are required.
  5. Click the + icon to add more answers.
  6. To remove an answer, hover over the answer and click X. The correct answer can't be deleted.

    Reorder answers by clicking the shuffle icon.

    You can also shuffle answers using the handle next to each answer. 

  7. Click Save.
  8. Repeat these steps for additional questions.
  9. Avoid placing questions too close together, as cue points may overlap.

  10. Click Done when you're finished.

Question markers appear on the timeline as blue quiz icons. 

You can:

  • Hover over a question icon to preview the question.
  • Click a question icon to edit it.
  • Drag a question icon to change its position on the timeline.

For the best participant experience, place the final question near the end of the video to encourage viewers to watch the entire recording.

Hints and justifications

You can help your participants by adding a Hint or a Why. 

  • A Hint contains additional information that can help answer the question (it doesn't affect the score). 
  • The Why provides additional information about why an answer is correct. It is displayed after quiz submission only when Include Answers is enabled in the Scores tab.

Add a hint

  1. Click the lamp icon and then the Hint icon.
  2. Enter the text in the box that appears. 
  3. Click Apply.

    Questions that contain a hint display a Show hint option under the question.

Add a justification

  1. Click the lamp icon and then the Why icon.
  2. Enter the rationale in the box that appears.
  3. Click Apply.

Preview the quiz

  1. Click Preview to test the participant experience.
  2. Click the to exit preview mode.
  3. Click Done when you're finished.

The session time for a quiz is the sessionLifetime parameter configured in the Auth module.
