Upgrade v2 players to v7 in BSE embeds

Use the BSE upgrade tool to update v2 players embedded through the Browse, Search, and Embed (BSE) tool in your LMS or CMS.

The tool replaces the selected v2 player with the default system v7 player or a custom v7 player ID you choose. Videos embedded in announcements, assignments, discussions, and other course areas then play in v7.

When to use this option

  • You want to upgrade v2 players embedded in your LMS or CMS through BSE.
  • You need to upgrade multiple player IDs configured for BSE embeds in your Browseandembed module.

Important to know

  • The BSE upgrade tool permanently changes a v2 player to a v7 player. If you also use that player for non-BSE embeds, those embeds might stop working after the upgrade. Use a dedicated player ID for BSE embeds to avoid this.
  • The tool updates only BSE-based embeds. If you pasted raw embed code into an HTML editor, re-embed the video through BSE.
  • If you manage multiple LMS Video (legacy) application instances, run the upgrade separately in each instance. If the same player is used across instances, upgrade it in each one.

Upgrade the main player

  1. Go to your Configuration Management console for your LMS, locate the Browseandembed module in the left panel, then select it. You can also open it directly at https://{your_site_url}/admin/config/tab/browseandembed.

    2. The Browseandembed page displays.

  2. In Module info at the top of the page, select this tool to open the BSE v7 upgrade tool.

    The Upgrade BSE player version page opens in a new tab.

  3. Copy the v2 player ID configured in the Browseandembed module. The ID is listed as BSEPlayerId.

  4. Paste the ID into the Player ID to upgrade field on the Upgrade BSE player version page.

  5. Select a player configuration:
    • Select Default player to use the default system v7 player.
    • Select Custom to enter a custom v7 player ID.

  1. Click Upgrade player.

A confirmation message displays: Are you sure you want to upgrade player ID 12345 to the new version? This can be undone until you upgrade your next player.

  1. Click Upgrade player again to confirm.

A confirmation message displays: Your player has been successfully updated.

Error messages

  • If the upgrade fails, this message appears: We were unable to replace your player. Please try again later.
  • If the player ID isn't for a v2 player, this message appears: The player is not a v2 player. Please enter a valid v2 player ID.

Upgrade additional players

If the Browseandembed module has multiple player IDs under embedSettings, repeat the upgrade steps for each ID.

Find a player ID

If you aren't sure which player ID to use, find it in your LMS:

  1. Open your LMS course page.
  2. Select the post that contains the embedded Kaltura media.
  3. Click Edit.
  4. In the text editor, select the </> icon to switch to HTML view.

  5. Copy the player ID from the embed code.

6. Enter this ID in the Player ID to upgrade field.

Restore a player

The tool saves a backup only for the most recent v2 player upgrade. It doesn't retain backups from earlier upgrades.

  1. Click Restore your latest upgraded player.

A confirmation message displays: Are you sure you want to restore the latest player (ID 12345) you upgraded?

  1. Click Restore player to confirm.

The tool restores your previous player configuration.
