About
Instructors may ask you to submit video assignments in Canvas using Kaltura’s Embed Media tool. This guide will show you how to upload and embed your video for submission.
Submit your video using the embed button
- Go to to your Canvas course, then click the Assignments tab.
- Find the assignment you need to submit and click Start Assignment.
- On the submission page, click Embed Kaltura Media in the text editor. (The button's location may vary depending on your setup.)
- Select the Embed button next to the media you want to embed. You can also use the search bar and filters to quickly find the media you need.
- Click Yes, please to confirm the action. Your video will appear in the assignment text editor.
- Complete any remaining assignment details, then click Submit Assignment at the bottom when you're ready to submit.
Your text editor may also include a dedicated button for video assignments, as shown in the image below. This button is specifically configured for submitting video assignments.
The embed window opens.
A pop-up window displays, asking if you would like to submit media as an assignment.
After submitting, a confirmation message will appear at the top of the screen. Your instructor can now view your video.
Add new media
Need to upload or record a new video? Use one of the options in the Add New menu:
- Upload (Visit our article Upload media for guidance.)
- Express Capture (Visit our article Express Capture for guidance.)
- YouTube (Visit our article Add a YouTube video for guidance.)
- Kaltura Capture (Visit our article Kaltura Capture for guidance.)
Customize your video before submitting
Want to customize your video before submitting? Click the settings icon next to the media you want to embed. This opens the embed settings, where you can adjust how the video appears and plays.
- Choose from the available options:
- Choose player: Choose from pre-configured players. Your administrator defines the available players.
- Max embed size: Set the maximum display size of the embedded video. The default size in Canvas is 1200x720, but you can adjust it to fit your layout and design preferences.
- Thumbnail embed: Display a static preview image instead of loading the full video player immediately. This helps improve page load speed and gives users control over when to play the video.
- Save these settings as default: Enable this option to apply your selected embed settings automatically to future media embeds, streamlining the process for repeated use.
