After creating and preparing your Live Studio event, open the Studio environment to preview and run the broadcast.

The Studio experience depends on the session type:

• Virtual studio broadcast mode – Multi-speaker sessions using the full Kaltura Room experience
• External broadcast mode (RTMP) – Broadcasts produced using an external RTMP encoder

Everyone uses the same event link. Live Studio recognizes each person’s role and automatically directs them to Studio view or Attendee view.

Before you begin

• Make sure you have created and prepared the Live Studio event.
• For an External broadcast event, configure your encoder and begin sending the stream before opening the Studio. This allows the event to enter Preview mode. For encoder connection details, see Edit media streaming settings in Content Hubs.
• Review recording and DVR settings in advance — some live stream settings should be finalized before the session starts

Open the Studio environment

You can open the Studio from My Media or from a shared event link.

1. Go to My Media.
2. Locate and click the Live Studio entry.



The Studio environment opens in a new tab or window.

Open from an event link

Open the event link provided by the event owner. Live Studio recognizes your role and directs you to the appropriate view.

When you first enter the Studio, a welcome message displays.

Preview the event

When you open the Studio, the event loads in Preview mode.

Use Preview mode to review the Studio and make sure everything is ready before attendees see the broadcast.

• For a Virtual studio broadcast, you’ll see the full Kaltura Room experience with the green room, storyboard, and chat and collaboration tools.
• For an External broadcast, you’ll see a simplified Studio designed for previewing or monitoring the encoder stream and engaging with attendees through chat and Q&A.

Start the broadcast

When you’re ready to begin broadcasting, click Go Live.

The event becomes available to attendees in Attendee view.

Switch between Studio and Attendee views

Users with Studio access can use the blue button at the top of the page to switch between Studio and Attendee views.

Switching to Attendee view lets you check how the event appears to attendees.

End the broadcast

Users with broadcast management permissions can end the broadcast.

1. Click End livestream at the top right of the Studio.
A confirmation message displays.
2. Confirm that you want to end the broadcast.

The broadcast and recording stop. A notification displays, and the Studio returns to Preview mode.

Return to the Studio

Before the event, you can close and reopen the Studio as needed. Your settings are saved automatically.

To return, open the event from My Media or use the same event link. Live Studio recognizes your role and directs you to the appropriate view.

After ending a broadcast, the Studio returns to Preview mode. The same Live Studio event can be used for another broadcast. Each new broadcast creates a separate recording.

After the event

After the broadcast ends, attendees see that the live event has ended. Once the recording has been processed, it becomes available as a VOD from the same event URL.

Detach recording

Detaching a recording removes it from the Live Studio event page. The recording remains available as a separate VOD.

1. Click the three dots under the player.



2. Select Detach recording.
A confirmation message displays.
3. Click Detach to continue.

The recording is removed from the event page and no longer displays to attendees. It remains available as a separate VOD in the owner’s My Media library.
