Roles and permissions for Live Studio events

About

Live Studio uses role-based permissions to determine who can access Studio view and what they can do during an event.

Everyone opens the event using the same link. Live Studio recognizes each person’s role and automatically directs them to Studio view or Attendee view.

Available access and controls also depend on the event’s session type:

  • Virtual studio broadcast – Uses the full Kaltura Room experience for events with one or more speakers.
  • External broadcast – Uses a simplified Studio experience for monitoring and managing a stream supplied by an external RTMP encoder.

How roles are assigned

Roles are managed from the event’s edit page. You can access the event’s edit media page from My Media or directly from the event page.

Access the edit page from My Media

In My Media, locate the Live Studio entry, click the three dots to the right and select edit from the menu options.

Access the edit page from the event page

  1. Open the Live Studio event.
  2. Make sure you’re in Attendee view. If you’re in Studio view, use the blue button at the top of the page to switch views.

  3. Click the three dots at the lower right of the screen and select Edit from the menu options.
  4. The edit media page displays with the Details tab selected by default.

Assign roles

  1. On the edit page, click the Roles & Permissions tab.
  2. The Roles & permissions page displays.

  3. Add collaborators, Room moderators, Chat moderators, and speakers as needed.
  4. Room moderator and Chat moderator are separate roles. Assign both roles to users who need to manage the session as well as moderate chat and Q&A.
