With the Webapp module, users can install your Content Hubs site as a progressive web app (PWA) on their phone, tablet, or computer, with no app store needed. 

The app opens the Content Hubs site in its own window, instead of a browser tab, and login and permissions work the same as in a browser.

After you enable the module, a banner appears at the top of your site with installation options.

Before you start

• The Webapp module is a custom module. To add it to your site, contact your Kaltura representative.
• Theming must be enabled on your site.

Configure the module

1. In the Configuration Management console, click Webapp in the left panel. You can also open the module directly at: https://{your_site_url}/admin/config/tab/webapp.

   The Webapp page displays.

   

2. Configure the following:
   • enabled - Set to Yes to enable the module.
   • appName - Enter the name of the app, up to 50 characters. This name appears in the browser's install prompt.
   • shortName - Enter a shorter version of the name, up to 15 characters. This name appears under the app icon on the home screen.
   • appIcon - Click Upload icon and select your icon file. The icon is resized automatically to 192 × 192 and 512 × 512 pixels for different devices. To remove the icon, click Remove.

     If the file can't be processed, the message Image could not be processed. Please upload a valid PNG, JPEG, or SVG file. appears. If the upload fails, your previous icon stays in use, and you can try again.

   • installBannerBackgroundImage - (Optional) Click Upload background and select an image for the install banner that appears on computers. The image replaces the banner's default blue background. To remove the image, click Remove.
3. Click Save.

Change the app name or icon

You can change the app name or icon at any time. Changes can take up to one hour to reach users.

On devices where the app is already installed, the new name and icon can take longer to appear, depending on the device.

Turn off the install banners

1. In the Webapp module, set enabled to No.
2. Click Save.

   The install banners and popups no longer appear to any user on your site.
