Set up a Shared Repository in Canvas

This article explains how to set up a Shared Repository in Kaltura's LMS Extensions.

The Shared Repository, also known as the Faculty Repository, is an institution-wide media library where educators can share and reuse media across courses.

Typically, an LMS instance has one Shared Repository. Depending on their permissions, educators can contribute media, browse and search shared content, and use media contributed by other educators.

Enable the Shared Repository

Enable the repository in the Hosted module

1. Open the Hosted module.
2. Ensure manPublish is set to 'Yes'.
3. Locate the sharedRepositoryCategoryId field.
4. Click Click here to enable the Shared Repository.
5. Click Save.

The system creates the Shared Repository category and automatically populates sharedRepositoryCategoryId with its category ID.

When the repository is enabled, the option next to the field changes to Click here to disable Shared Repositories.

Configure access

In the Hosted module, configure the LMS roles that can access the Shared Repository.

For each applicable role, set allowSharedRepository to 'Yes', and then click Save.

Users can access the Shared Repository only if their mapped LMS role has permission to use it.

Configure the Sharedrepositories module

Open the Sharedrepositories module and set enabled to 'Yes'.

Configure the media selector

1. Open the Theming module.
2. Verify that enabled is set to Yes.
3. Under features, verify that browseandembed is set to Yes.
4. Open the Browseandembed module.
5. Verify that enableNewBSEUI is set to v3.
6. Click Save if you made any changes.

Access the Shared Repository

After the Shared Repository is configured, educators with the appropriate permissions can access it from the media selector.

When the Select media window opens, the My Media tab is displayed by default. Click the Shared Repository tab to access shared media.
