About
In Content Hubs and the legacy Video Portal, the Privacybanner module shows a banner that tells anonymous users your site uses cookies, and lets them accept or decline them.
- Privacybanner is a custom module. To add it to your site, contact your Kaltura representative.
- The banner appears only if your site has pages that anonymous users can open. To allow guest access to your site, set
allowAnonymousto Yes in the Auth module.
The banner appears at the top of the page when an anonymous user opens a page that's available without logging in:
- If the user clicks Accept, your site creates an ID for that user. The ID is passed to the Kaltura Player and used in all the analytics events sent to Kaltura.
- If the user clicks Decline, no ID is created, and the user stays anonymous.
The site remembers the user's choice as long as they use the same browser and don't clear their cookies, so the banner doesn't appear again.

Configure
- Go to your Configuration Management console, locate the Privacybanner module in the left panel, then select it. You can also navigate directly using a link:
https://{your_site_url}/admin/config/tab/privacybanner - Configure the following:
- enabled - Set to Yes to enable the module.
- bannerMessage - Enter the text to show on the banner. You can use rich text, such as HTML tags, links, bold, and underline. The field contains a default message that tells users your site uses cookies, with a link to a privacy policy.
The field is small, so it's easier to edit the message in a text editor. For instructions, see Edit the banner message. The privacy policy link in the default message goes to Kaltura's privacy policy. Change it to your organization's privacy policy.
- Click Save.
The Privacybanner page displays.
Edit the banner message
The bannerMessage field is small, and the default message is almost 300 characters of text and HTML. It's easier to edit the message in a text editor, and then paste it back.
- Select all the text in the bannerMessage field: double-click in the field, or click in it and press Ctrl+A (Cmd+A on a Mac). Then press Ctrl+C (Cmd+C) to copy it.
- Paste the text into a plain text editor, such as Notepad. Programs like Word can change the quotation marks in the link code and break the link.
- Make your changes. For example, to link to your organization's privacy policy, replace
https://corp.kaltura.com/privacy-policywith the URL of your policy:<a href='https://www.yourorganization.com/privacy' target='blank'>see our Privacy Policy</a>
- Copy all the edited text.
- Select all the old text in the bannerMessage field, either by double-clicking in it or by clicking in it and pressing Ctrl+A (Cmd+A). Then press Ctrl+V (Cmd+V) to paste your new message.
- Click Save.
To see your new message, open your site in a private or incognito browser window. The banner appears with your text.
