About
The Lean webcast page is a streamlined version of the standard webcast player page, designed specifically for large-scale live events with thousands of viewers. It improves performance and stability by reducing backend load and simplifying the page layout.
Why use a Lean page?
The Lean page is strongly recommended for any webcasting event with 5,000+ expected participants. In high-traffic scenarios, the standard webcast page can generate heavy API traffic and slow load times. Lean mode helps avoid performance issues by:
- Minimizing unnecessary UI components
- Reducing backend API calls
- Improving video start times and viewer experience
What changes in Lean mode?
When Lean mode is active, the entry page is simplified to reduce system load and improve performance for large-scale events. This includes removing or hiding several UI sections that are normally displayed on a standard live entry page. It also speeds up access by remembering logged-in viewers and ensures that only users with permission can view the live stream.
The following elements are not shown in Lean mode
- Categories – the section that groups entries by topic or tag
- Appears in – the indication showing which channel the video is part of
- Search in video – the search bar
- Policy – the content policy section
- Like button – the option to like the entry is not shown
- Comment count – the number of comments is not displayed

Additional UI and behavior differences
- Comments are moved into a tab and only load when clicked
- Clicking lists or user actions (e.g., action menus, profile links) shows a loading indicator
- Only speakers configured using the newer Presenters module are supported
- Styling configured in the EntryDesign module is not applied (for example, background images, custom branding or css won’t appear)

Move to Theming pages for a better experience
While the Lean webcast page helps optimize large-scale events, we still recommend transitioning to Kaltura’s Theming design system pages for a more modern, scalable, and customizable experience.
The Theming pages offer:
- A clean, responsive design
- Built-in performance optimizations
- Flexible branding and layout options
