About
Live Studio is a live event type in Video Portal that gives all participants a single way to join. The system recognizes each person’s role and shows the right view automatically.
Live Studio runs entirely in your browser - no installation is required. This article focuses on the attendee experience.
Before the event
When you open the event link, the lobby page loads in your browser. Before the event starts, you’ll see:
- The event title, description, and schedule.
- A message in the player area stating the event hasn’t started yet.
The lobby remains available until the event goes live.
Lobby pageDuring the event
When the event starts, the player begins streaming automatically.
As an attendee, you can:
- Watch the live broadcast in the player area.
- Follow along with the discussion and share feedback during the session.
- Use engagement tools such as Chat, Q&A, and interactions such as polls and quizzes (if enabled by the event team)
- Choose your preferred layout, such as focused view or side-by-side video (layout options depend on the event type and how the event team configured the session).
- View presenter details and related media below the player.
- Anonymous viewers can watch the live stream, but can’t post in chat, Q&A, or interactions.
- You might also be invited directly using an event link. See Join a session in a Kaltura Room in Video Portal for more information.

If your connection drops, refresh the page to rejoin the live stream.
After the event
After the event, the recording is available on the same event page (there’s no separate link to follow). The live player is replaced with a VOD version of the event. If the event owner removes the recording, the page reverts to the lobby view.
