Capture and Express Capture both let you create and upload recordings to Kaltura. Express Capture is designed for quick recordings from a supported desktop browser, while Capture is an installed desktop application with additional recording and presentation tools.
Express Capture
- Browser-based recording: Record directly from a supported desktop browser without installing an application.
- Camera, microphone, and screen capture: Record one camera, one screen, and audio.
- Quick recording workflow: Preview the recording, record it again, download a local copy, or upload it to Kaltura.
- Basic recording tools: Pause and resume recording, but no annotation, whiteboard, or resolution controls are available.
- Desktop only: Express Capture is not supported on mobile devices or tablets, including iPhones and iPads.
Capture
- Installed desktop application: Capture must be downloaded and installed on your computer.
- Multiple recording sources: Record up to two cameras, two screens, and audio.
- Presentation tools: Use annotations and the whiteboard while recording, and automatically generate chapters from PowerPoint presentations.
- Recording controls: Pause and resume recording and select the camera and screen-capture resolution.
- Offline recording: Record without an internet connection and upload the recording when a connection is available.
Which tool should I use?
Use Express Capture for quick recordings from a supported desktop browser when you don’t need to install an application or use advanced recording tools.
Use Capture for more complex recordings that require multiple sources, annotations, a whiteboard, PowerPoint chapter generation, resolution controls, or offline recording.
