Do I need to provide an SSL certificate for a custom domain?

No. By default, Kaltura automatically issues and manages SSL certificates for alias hostnames (custom domains).

When you configure a hostname using the Managed option, SSL certificates are:

  • Issued automatically
  • Renewed automatically

No manual setup or renewal is required.

If needed, you can choose to provide your own certificate by selecting the Custom option during hostname setup.

This applies to Kaltura applications hosted on Kaltura’s SaaS environment, including:

  • Content Hubs
  • LMS Video (KAF)
  • Kaltura Events

If your organization does not allow automatic certificate management, you can configure your own SSL certificate when adding a hostname. For DNS setup instructions, see Set up an alias hostname for Content Hubs and KAF integrations for details.
