Screen annotations let you draw, highlight, and add text while recording your screen in Capture.
Annotations are available only during screen recordings. They aren't available when you're recording your camera only.
Open the annotation toolbar
- Start your screen recording in Capture.
- Click the pencil icon on the control panel to expand the annotation tools panel.

Click the pencil icon again to hide the annotation tools.
Annotation tools
The annotation toolbar includes the following tools:

| Tool | Description |
|---|---|
| Arrow | Draw arrows to highlight items on your screen. |
| Text | Add text anywhere on the screen. You can enter up to 500 characters, including special characters, hyperlinks, and text in multiple languages. |
| Color | Select the annotation color: white, red, blue, black, yellow, or green. |
| Line size | Increase or decrease the line thickness for drawing tools. |
| Drawing | Draw freehand annotations on the screen. |
| Cursor | Return to normal cursor mode after using the annotation tools. |
| Select | Select and move an existing annotation or select an area of the screen. |
| Whiteboard | Open a blank whiteboard for creating additional annotations. |
| Clear annotations | Remove all annotations from the screen. |
