The player used in the Kaltura video editor will be upgraded from the legacy v2 player to the v7 player. This update aligns the editor with current Kaltura player standards and supports a more secure and stable editing experience.

The change is planned for June 8, 2026.

Upgrade benefits

The move to the v7 player is more than a technical update; it provides several immediate and long-term advantages for your editing workflows:

• Enhanced security: The v7 player includes the latest security patches and compliance standards.
• Modern interface: You'll notice a cleaner, more contemporary UI within the editor that matches the rest of the Kaltura ecosystem.
• Improved performance: Enjoy better stability and faster loading times within the Kaltura video editor interface.
• Future-proofing: Enables new capabilities that were not supported with the v2 player

What to expect

The editing experience remains unchanged, with the v7 player now powering the editor. For most users, no action is required and you can continue using your existing tools as you do today.

All existing plugins, including Dual Screen (parent-child) and multi-stream switching, remain the same.

NEW: YouTube support

With the new v7 player, you will be able to add and play YouTube videos within the editor, a capability that was not available with the v2 player.

If you use a custom player

If your editor is configured with a custom player, your existing custom player configurations will be applied to a v7 player. 

After the upgrade, we recommend testing key workflows (for example: multi-stream / dual screen, quizzes, and any plugin-based features) to verify everything works as expected

How to tell you've been upgraded

After the upgrade, the editor will display the v7 player interface, as shown in the image below.
