Are Lecture Capture live events recorded by default?
Yes. Kaltura Lecture Capture is first and foremost a lecture recording solution. Therefore, the main use case remains high-quality recordings of classrooms with the support of capture cards. Live lectures are recorded locally, not in the cloud. After the recording is complete, the recorded lecture is automatically uploaded to Kaltura.
Can i launch live broadcasting with Lecture Capture ad-hoc?
No. Currently Lecture Capture live streaming is supported only for scheduled events - ad hoc live events will be part of future roll-outs.
Can you live stream a lecture with Lecture Capture without recording it?
No, Kaltura Lecture Capture is first and foremost a lecture recording solution, therefore the main use case remains high-quality recordings of classrooms with the support of capture cards.
Live lectures are recorded locally, not in the cloud. After the recording is complete, the recorded lecture is automatically uploaded to Kaltura, as always.
How is live broadcasting with Lecture Capture different than live broadcasting through virtual classroom?
Live broadcasting with Lecture Capture is a one-way broadcast experience of a physical classroom lecture to remote students. Because it is a one-way broadcast, it is not an interactive experience and there is no option for interaction between viewers and instructor. By contrast, Kaltura Virtual Classroom is an interactive learning experience between instructor and students and includes dedicated tools for real-time interaction and collaboration (polls, quizzes, hand raise, whiteboards etc).

Overview of live broadcasting with Kaltura Lecture Capture
With the addition of live capabilities, Kaltura Lecture Capture now includes both the ability to record any classroom and the ability to broadcast lectures live at the same time. This allows universities to substantially scale their lectures and expand their reach; support remote learners, broadcast guest lectures, and provide an alternative for lectures with room overflow.
To add live broadcasting to your Lecture Capture you will need to schedule the lecture with live broadcast turned on. During the event, viewers will be able to watch the live broadcast in a dedicated entry that can be published to a course. Admins will be able to monitor live broadcasts through the monitoring dashboard. The recording will be performed locally in the client and uploaded to the cloud once the event ends.
