Ad Blocker Detection

Overview

Ad blockers can deny Kaltura the option of collecting viewership data which could affect features such as certifications (CPE/education), badges, leaderboard, and lead reporting on viewership-based events. Ad blockers can also interfere with analytics collection and cause other unwanted outcomes.

If enabled, the Ad Blocker Detection plugin detects the ad blocker and either informs the user about detection of the ad blocker or blocks playback of content until the ad blocker is disabled.

Setup

To learn how to set the Ad Blocker Detection plugin on the player, see The Kaltura Player Studio Admin Guide - Player Settings.

Features

The Ad Blocker Detection plugin displays a message requiring end-user interaction if an ad blocker is detected on the page where the player is loaded.

If your instance is configured to allow playback with an ad blocker on, you can choose to keep it on and continue playback by clicking Keep it on. You may also choose to disable the ad blocker and then click I disabled my ad blocker

If your instance is not configured to allow playback with an ad blocker on, you will not be given the option to keep it on. You must disable the ad blocker and then click I disabled my ad blocker before being able to view the entry.

In both configurations, if you click I disabled my ad blocker before you disable the ad blocker, you will receive notification that the ad blocker is not disabled yet.

The title and description of the message, as well as the two button labels, are configurable within the Studio. Your message and buttons may be different than what is shown herein.
