Remove media from your course in Moodle

About

Removing a video from your course page does not unpublish it in Kaltura. If you added a video using the Browse and Embed tool, Kaltura considers it 'Published'. Even if you delete the video from the course content or Media Gallery, it will still appear as 'Published' in your My Media list. This is expected behavior.

Why does this happen?

When you embed or publish a video in your LMS, Kaltura creates a behind-the-scenes reference that keeps the video marked as published. Removing it from the course doesn’t remove this reference, so the video remains published in Kaltura.

There’s no automatic sync between your LMS and Kaltura that updates the publish status when something is removed from a course.

How to unpublish a video

1. Go to My Media.

2. Find the video and click Published to see where it’s currently shared.

3. Manually remove the video from each course:

  • If it’s listed under a Media Gallery, go to that course’s gallery and remove it.
  • If it’s embedded in course content, go to the course and delete the embedded video.

4. Once the video is removed from all course locations, it will return to Private status in Kaltura.

5. You can now delete it from My Media, if needed.

Only private videos can be deleted. If a video is still marked as published, it’s still shared somewhere, even if it’s no longer visible in the course.
