Assign and manage room moderators

About

In Kaltura Rooms, you can assign moderators directly from the media edit page. This lets you define who can manage a room without making them an entry owner or co-editor.

Moderators can:

  • Start and end a room session
  • Manage room content
  • Access the moderator backchannel
  • See and use the 'Join now' button at all times (they don’t need to wait for a co-editor or owner to start the room)

Unlike co-editors, moderators can’t access the media’s edit page.

This feature is available only for Kaltura Rooms (rooms created with a template ID).

Add moderators to a room

  1. Go to the media page for your room.
  2. Click the three-dot menu below the player and select Edit.
  3. The edit media page displays.

  4. Open the Room tab (visible only for new Kaltura Rooms).
  5. In the Room moderators field, start typing the user's name and select the user from the auto-suggest list.
  6. You can add multiple moderators to the field, one after the other.

  7. Click Save.
  • Owners and co-editors are always the main hosts in the room. They have the highest level of control.
  • Moderators added from the edit page can do almost everything co-editors do inside the room (open it, start it, manage it), but they can’t edit the media entry itself.
  • Moderators are different from collaboration roles (owner, co-editor, co-publisher). Adding someone as a moderator doesn’t automatically give them those roles.
  • If you invite someone as a moderator, they won’t become a co-editor, but they’ll still be able to join and run the session like one.
  • Room moderators don’t currently have chat moderation rights. If chat moderation is needed, assign the user as both a Room and Chat moderator.
