  • The rule-based playlist is limited to 10K (can be extended)
  • The mandatory thumbnail (16:9) should be marked as "default".
  • For security and usability reasons, Vewd does not allow HTML code in descriptions. Any links (from KMS fields, for example) will be presented as plain text

Setting up an Vewd Snap Feed in KMC

Publishing to the Vewd Snap is based on an MRSS feed that is generated in the KMC. The allocation of content to the different categories in the Vewd application is based on entry tags. See additional information in Step 2.

Step 1 (Optional) - Create a Dynamic Playlist within Kaltura

We recommend creating a rule-based playlist that will include the KMC categories and entries you may want to publish on Vewd. With most publishers, only a number of categories in KMC include videos that should be publicly available. We suggest including only these videos in the playlist to improve performance; however, you can also skip Step 1 and simply create a mRSS feed that includes all the content in your account.

To create a playlist

  1. In the KMC, under Content, click Playlists.

  2. Click Add Playlist and then, in the popup Add New Playlist window, select the option Rule-Based Playlist.
  3. Name the playlist (e.g., Public Videos - Vewd) and provide a description.

  4. Click Next. This displays the playlist's details page with the Content tab selected by default.

  5. In the Content tab, click +Add Rule. This displays the Add a rule to your playlist window.

  6. In the Rule Name field, enter a name for the rule.
  7. In the Order By field, select the order you wish to display the results.
  8. Next, click in the Filter Categories field, and then select the filters you wish to include in the playlist.

The results of your selection are displayed in the window.

  9. Click the Add button in the top right to save the rule-based playlist.
  10. Next, add metadata tags by selecting the Metadata tab (optional).

  11. Click Save to save your changes. The playlist gets added to your list.
  12. Next, select the Syndication tab and then select Add Feed.
  13. Give the feed a name related to Vewd, and select the From Playlist option.
  14. In the Content dropdown, select Vewd and in the Destination dropdown, select Vewd TV Snap.

  15. Click Save to save your changes.

Step 2 - Prepare your Tags

When submitting the app, you will be asked what is the tags prefix that should be used to define the categories (see image below). These tags (tags) will be used by Vewd to associate your KMC videos with the right category in the Vewd Snap app. We suggest using a simple naming schema that will make it easy for your editorial team to publish to Vewd. For example, set the prefix to "vewd_"; then, to create a Tutorials category, tag videos in KMC with a the tag "vewd_Tutorials".

Tip: You may want to create these tags and associate them with at least some videos before creating the syndication feed. You can always add more tags later, but since the tags are pre-ingested by Vewd when you create your application, it is better to create the tags early in the process.

  1. Going back to the "Tutorials example", an way easy to publish all video under the KMC Tutorials category would be to filter for them in KMC. Select the Content menu and then select the Categories tab.
  2. Select a category or multiple categories and select Bulk Actions.
  3. Select Add/Remove Tags from the dropdown menu and then select Add Tags.

  4. In the Add Tags window, enter tags to be appended to all selected categories. Add the tag "vewd_Tutorials" to all videos. You can also unpublish videos in bulk by removing this tag.
  5. Click Save Changes.

About Vewd Categories and Tags

When submitting your application, you will be asked to enter a tags prefix (see image below). This prefix will be used by Vewd to publish your KMC videos in the right category within your Vewd Snap application.

We suggest using a simple prefix like "vewd_" that will make it easy for your editorial team to publish to Vewd. For example, if you have a content category in KMC called "Tutorials", you would could tag any videos that should be published to Vewd with "Vewd_Tutorials". Vewd will then omit the prefix and display the Tutorials category in the application. Please note that tags are case-sensitive.
