Requesting and Ordering Captions through the KMS/KAF

This section describes REACH integration with the Kaltura MediaSpace and the Kaltura Application Framework (KAF) applications. All completed caption requests are automatically returned to KMS/KAF and are seamlessly integrated.

The following topics are described:

Ordering Captions Per Entry

To order captions per entry 

  1. Select My Media from the User drop down menu and click on a media entry. 
  2. Select Captions Requests from the Actions drop down menu.

    The Captions Requests screen is displayed. 

    The screen is divided into two sections.
    Captions Requests – lists existing captions requests.

    If there are no existing captions' requests, the following message is displayed:

    Order Captions – use to order captions.
  3. Click Order to scroll down to the Order Captions section.
  4. Select the Service - Machine or Professional.
    If you select Machine, select the Source Media Language from the drop-down menu and click Submit.

    If you select Professional, the screen is expanded.
  5. Select the Source Media Language from the drop-down menu.
  6. Select the Feature. Captions or Translation.

    For Translation:

    Select the Target Translation Language.

    Select the Turnaround time (TAT) from the drop-down menu. The TAT options are set by your administrator.

    For Captions:

    Select the Turnaround time (TAT) from the drop-down menu. The TAT options are set by your administrator.

  7. Add Speaker Names. This feature must be enabled by your system administrator. 
  8. (Optional) Add Instructions & Notes you would like the professional to consider when captioning.
  9. Click Submit. 

If the captions’ requests require approval – the request status will be “Pending approval” until the requests are approved. 

After captions’ requests are approved, the requests are sent automatically. The captions will be uploaded the media when completed. You will receive a message that your request has been received. Notifications must be enabled by your system administrator.

The captions’ request will be shown on the captions request list on the top of the page. You can follow the caption status by viewing the status.

If there is an identical request for captions, the system will display the following message: Captions were already requested for this video.

If there is insufficient credit to order captions, the system will display the following message: Request cannot be ordered, there is no credit for captions. Please contact your admin.

Ordering Captions for Multiple Entries

To order captions for multiple media entries 

  1. Select My Media and then select the media (click the checkbox to select). You may select more than one entry.  Be certain to select only Video/Audio entries that are ready for playback.
  2. Select Order Captions from the Actions menu.

    The following screen is displayed:  
  3. Select the Service - Machine or Professional.

    If you select Machine, select the Source Media Language from the drop-down menu and click Submit.

    If you select Professional, the screen is expanded.
  4. Select the Source Media Language from the drop-down menu.
  5. Select the Feature. Captions or Translation.

    For Translation:

    Select the Target Translation Language.

    For Captions:

    Select the Turnaround time (TAT) from the drop-down menu. The TAT options are set by your administrator.

Ordering Captions Per Category/Channel

This section describes how to order Kaltura REACH services (captions or translations) through Kaltura MediaSpace (KMS) and through Kaltura Application Framework (KAF) applications per category/channel.

The following topics are described:

Create a Rule for Ordering Captions

You will need to create a rule for each type of service you order. The rule consists of a Role and Service Type. You will need to configure the relevant parameters based on the type of service you select. 

The service you select will be ordered for each media published to the selected channel(s) in the future. Orders for the selected service will be applied to all content created by the role you selected for the selected channel.

To order captions for a category/channel

  1. Select My Channels and select a channel or category. (Click the channel thumbnail to select it.). 
  2. Select Services Ordering Rules from the Actions menu located on the top right.

    The Create Rule for Ordering screen is displayed:
  3. Select the role from the drop-down menu. The options are:
  4. Select the Service - Machine or Professional.
  5. If you select Machine, select the Source Media Language from the drop-down menu and click Submit.

    If you select Professional, the screen is expanded. 
  6. Select the Source Media Language from the drop down menu.
  7. Select the Feature. Translation or Caption.
  8. Add Speaker Names. This feature must be enabled by your system administrator. 
  9. (Optional) Add Instructions & Notes.
  10. Click Submit.

    Order requests will be generated and automatically approved for each video published to this channel in the future. The requested order will be uploaded when completed.
    A confirmation message is displayed that your order has been placed. 

  11. If you submit an identical rule to one that exists, the following message is displayed:  

    NOTE: There is no moderation process for automatic captions’ requests.  Notifications will not be generated for automatic rules. (The user will not receive a message that their order has been received.) History content will not be captioned. The rule applies only to new content published to the channel.

    Viewing Ordering Rules

    To view role-based rules for ordering Kaltura REACH Services

    1. Select My Channels and select a channel or category. (Click the channel thumbnail to select.) You may select more than one channel.
    2. Select Services Ordering Rules from the Actions menu on the top right.
    3. If there are no existing rules, the following message is displayed: 
    4. If there are existing rules the View Ordering Rules table is displayed with the configured rules.

    The service rules table contains the following:

    • Creator
    • Creation Date – use the arrow to sort this column
    • Service Type
    • TAT
    • Language 
    • Published By
    • A trash icon is displayed for rules that are pending. You can delete service rules by clicking on the Trash icon.
