What's New in this Release?

Feature

Description

Player embed look

The Kaltura Player embed has been improved to look better on the latest WordPress versions. 

Responsive player embed

The option to choose a responsive player embed was added when choosing how to embed a player in a blog post.

HTML upload

The underlying technology for upload has been changed to HTML from the legacy Flash, to support modern browser versions. 

Search and filter capabilities in Browse Existing Media

Extra abilities to improve usability have been added that allow you to search and filter media in the Browse Existing Media and Manage Existing Media Screens .

Segregated user content configuration

A configuration option for administators has been added to select whether content editors can see all publisher media or only their own media in Browse Existing Media.

Root category

Administators can now configure the root category (in Kaltura) where all media is uploaded to, and that content can be repurposed from.

Limit player selection

An option for administators to select which players are available for content editors to choose from has been added.

Co-editors and Co-publishers

Support has been added for users who are assigned as co-editors or co-publishers (via KMS or KMC) to view and use that media through the WordPress Plugin interface.

Removed the ability to add video comments.

Sidebar

Removed the additional optional recent videos sidebar.

Bulk video posts creation

Removed the admininstrator ability to bulk create video posts from a KMC account.

In some WordPress themes and some browsers, after adding a video to a post, the text editor toolbar may move a bit on the post creation screen. This behavior is not permanent and after a page refresh, it returns to normal.

Flash Players 

Only HTML players are supported. Administrators and content editors cannot select to use legacy Flash players.

Old Internet Explorers and responsive embed 

Responsive embed players are not rendered correctly in old IE browsers and in IE in compatibility mode.

Kaltura Video Plugin

Full support for WordPress 3.5.x

Multi-Site Support

After you install the plugin as a network admin and perform the “network activate” command, you can then use the plugin in multiple WordPress sites in the multi-site network. 

Editors and mixes

Removed all editors and mixes functionality and references.

Mobile playback support

The playback is now available on all devices (including iOS, Android, web, and set-top boxes).

WordPress coding standards

Improved alignment with WordPress coding standards.

Player and Widgets

The Kaltura Video Plugin has been updated to use Kaltura’s latest players and uploading widgets.

To use the Kaltura WordPress plugin with the Kaltura OnPrem:

  • All the uiConfs must be copied manually from Kaltura.com 
  • HTML5 (ver. 1.7.2) should be added to the server (http://html5video.org/kgit/tags/v1.7.2/)
  • Create soft link "LocalSettings.php -> /opt/kaltura/app/configurations/html5.php"
