This page provides a list of the frequently asked questions regarding the v2 UI in KMS and KAF instances.

We recommend that before enabling the KMS v2 UI on your MediaSpace production instance, enable it on a test-instance.

Kaltura also offers the ability for admins to view the v2 UI on the production KMS without turning it on for all users, only on your local computer. To do so, follow these steps:

  1. Login to the KMS admin page at https://{your_KMS_url}/admin.
  2. Navigate to the V2ui module or go to https://{your_KMS_url}/admin/config/tab/v2ui
  3. Find the “preview” field, and look for the “click here” button.
  4. To turn the preview off, follow the above steps, and look for the “stopPreview” field, where you will see the “click here” button to stop the preview.

[collapsed title="6. Can I customize my KMS if I use the KMS v2 UI?"]

Yes, there are 2 ways to do that.

Styling module

Use the styling module to modify elements in KMS. This module is only available for the v2 UI.

  1. Login to the KMS admin page at https://{your_KMS_url}/admin.
  2. Navigate to the styling module or go to https://{your_KMS_url}/admin/config/tab/styling
  3. Set the 'enabled' field to 'Yes' and click 'Save'.
  4. Click on the link in the module description or navigate to https://{your_KMS_url}/styling to edit and preview a new style.

Custom CSS

You can upload your custom CSS. We recommend adding a custom CSS only after you see the out of the box UI.

To add a custom CSS:

  1. Login to the KMS/KAF admin page at https://{your_KMS/KAF_url}/admin.
  2. Navigate to the uploadCss module or go to https://{your_KMS/KAF_url}/admin/config/tab/cssupload
  3. Set the 'enabled' field to 'Yes' and click 'Save'.
  4.  A new button 'upload' will open next to the 'Additional' section. Upload your CSS file and click 'Save'.

[collapsed title="9. What should I do if I am using Bootswatch with my UI v1? "]

Bootswatch is not supported with the UI v2.

We offer other options for customizations (see how in Question 6), but before making any changes to the look and feel, we suggest taking a look at the new UI (see how in Questions 2 & 4).

[collapsed title="10. What should I do if I uploaded a custom CSS to my UI v1? "]

We recommend testing the new UI before moving to v2 (see how in Question 4), as many of the visual elements have changed and the old CSS might not behave as expected. You can make changes to the CSS or upload a new one. We also offer a new styling feature – see more in Question 6.

[collapsed title="11. What browsers does the UI v2 support? "]

The UI v2 supports the latest browser's versions.

Please note that legacy versions of Internet Explorer (IE6, 7, 8, 9) which are no longer supported by Microsoft are not supported by the UI v2.

If your users use IE with compatibility mode, we recommend turning on the compatibility feature in KMS. To do so follow these steps:

  1. Login to the KMS/KAF admin page at https://{your_KMS/KAF_url}/admin.
  2. Navigate to the Application module or go to https://{your_KMS/KAF_url}/admin/config/tab/application
  3. Set the ‘forceIECompatibilityMode’ field to 'Yes' and click 'Save'.
