Kaltura Screen Recorder

Easily record the screen along with audio and webcam to create and publish screencasts. Instructors and students can use this feature to record and share lectures, presentations, software tutorials, and other content.

The Screen Recorder is accessible from My Media, Course Gallery and the Mashup Tool. The screen records include:

• A desktop recording
• Audio
• (Optional) Web cam

Allows users to user access control by Kaltura Secret, to enforce maximum security for users.

Engagement reports for instructors

Understand how media is used in your course. Get answers to questions like: Are students really watching the videos? Which students watch the videos? Which videos are being watched? Are the videos being watched to the end? Which students contribute media to the course and how does that media fare?

Create new media from the Mashup Tool 

Creating an announcement and you suddenly realize that you want to record yourself or upload media to be included in it? Now you can do it all from the same location. Simply launch the Kaltura Mashup from the text editor and upload new media or use media that was uploaded in the past. The same flow exists wherever you have access to the text editor: in assignments, tests, quizzes, forums, blogs, and more.

• KDP versions earlier than 3.6.x (End-user level analytics are not reported.) 
• HTML5 player versions earlier than 1.7.0.6 (Limited functionality may exist.)

To address this limitation:

• Upgrade KDP to 3.6.x or later.
• Upgrade HTML5 to 1.7.0.6 or later.
• (On-Prem) The minimal On-Prem version is Falcon. In addition to upgrading KDP and HTML5, ensure that the On-Prem instance includes the relevant files (swf, HTML5 lib code). 

iPad does not display full screen correctly.

To address this limitation and enable the native fullscreen, pass the following uiVar to the player uiConf:

The full screen uses an iOS native player: No overlays are displayed on the player and the user can skip ads while playing media on full screen in iOS devices.

URI too long: After editing Kaltura Media content several times, it results in the following error: "The requested URL's length exceeds the capacity limit for this server. Request failed: URI too long Apache/1.3.41 Server at bbapp5a.csuchico.edu Port 443"

Javascript is not added incrementally and the error does not occur.

You could not perform the copy course action when the Kaltura copy course option failed.

You can now copy a course even though Kaltura copy course process may report a failure.

Copying Course Gallery

When copying a course in Blackboard, the Course Gallery is also copied. An option is available that allows you not to copy the students’ media from the Course Gallery when copying a course.

Ability to define access to the Faculty Repository

A Blackboard Administrator can define which Institution Roles have access to the Faculty Repository.

Course Gallery’s KCW and Content tool’s KCW Widget Settings Modification.

After copying a course in Blackboard, the Mashup category in the KMC is only created after playing the entry that was included in the Mashup.

Mash-up Tool Integration

You can use/share more videos anywhere within Blackboard by embedding videos in the WYSIWYG editor, with one-click access to videos in My Media, and in the Faculty Repository. This simple flow enables additional functionality such as video assignments, video in forum posts and more.

Faculty Repository

Faculty can easily share content with each other by making their media public in the searchable Faculty Repository. The Faculty Repository also allows faculty to use library/curriculum media content for their courses.

Advanced Search Capabilities

Seraching capabilities have been enhanced. You can perform advanced searching and filtering through the videos’ metadata and save searches for future use.

Default widgets are not included as part of the Dragonfly On-Prem version. The widgets either need to be created, or have the Building Block point to other UI Confs on the installation.

iPad playback

iPad uses the native player.

Implications: advanced features such as closed captions, player branding and other related features will not work on the iPad.

Sort By Relevance from version Falcon and up

The ability to sort by relevance following search is only functional when working with the Falcon version. We recommend that you disable this functionality when working with previous versions.

Clipping capability from version Eagle and up

Clipping functionality is only available for Eagle and later versions. We recommend that you disable the clipping functionality when working with Dragonfly version.

Kaltura On-Prem Cassiopeia

This version of Kaltura Video Building Block is not supported for the On-Prem Cassiopeia version or previous versions.

Max number of courses per entry

The maximum amount of courses a single entry can be assigned to in Blackboard is 32. (This is due to the Kaltura API limitation.)

Max number of categories/courses per account

A Kaltura account can have a maximum amount of 1000 categories.

Since each course is represented as a category, Kaltura Video Building Block can work with up to 1000 courses.

Custom roles for instructor do not share the same capabilities in course galleries as the standard instructor role.

Instructors are now identified by their relevant permissions as well as by role name.
